WTB 1863 50/70

Post by Bulseyetom » Thu Jun 10, 2021 3:38 pm

Looking to fill my stable with a 50/70 for hunting. Would prefer a Shiloh 1863 but any replica or original that shoots good would be ok. If all else fails, a Trapdoor with a good bore would also be suitable. Thanks. Tom

Tom, It may be easier than you think to find a Trapdoor with a good bore. A couple of years ago I sold an 1868 50-70 with a perfect bore for $550.

Either a trapdoor or a sharps would be an awesome hunting gun in that cartridge. I've never had one, but thought about it often.

Good luck with the hunt. It's out there somewhere for you.

How is the trigger pull on a typical trapdoor? I have a #5 Rolling Block with a heavy barrel in 250 Savage that I am considering reboring to 50-70.

The 50-70 I had was good, my 1884 so-so. If you have a rolling block you can get the wire spring thingy for the trigger to make it real good.
