C. Sharps Custom Sporting & Target Rifle

Post by Throck3 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 6:58 pm

About a month ago, I took delivery of a new C. Sharps Custom Sporting & Target Rifle and thought I would share some photos. The rifle is in .45-70 and sports a heavy half octagonal/half round barrel with globe and Soule long-range sights. The rifle has a full checkered pistol grip stock with a ebony forend tip and insert on the scalloped grip. The butt has a high comb and a cheek rest. It is a pleasure to shoot and seems to be very accurate. I shot a target load worked up for a previous C. Sharps Hartford Model in the same caliber and was able to shoot a five round string into a 7/8" group at 100 yards off a sandbag rest. I shoot 71 gr. of Swiss 3f over a 532 gr. Brooks New Postel bullet cast out of 20/1 alloy. The shotgun butt on this rifle beats the hell out of the felt recoil of the narrow military butt on the Hartford Model. The recoil of rifle is very comfortable even with the heavy load.

Thanks, Ranch 13. This rifle is a lot of fun and a pleasure to shoot. I want to try this load at a longer range. Unfortunately, I live in the DFW metro area and the nearest range where I can shoot out to 500-1000 yards is a couple of hours away.
