.50-70 Pedersoli Long Range

Post by ireload2 » Fri Nov 20, 2009 2:30 pm

I have a Pedersoli .50-70 Long Range coming in the mail. Any 50-70 reloading suggestions?
I would really appreciate suggestions for an accurate bullet.
Anyone know what the throat and chamber dimensions are?
Doe this thing have an abrupt leade like a 45-70 or does it have something else?

Easy cartridge to load. Try the Lyman 512142 FN at 515 Gr. I use 68-70 Gr. of GOEX Cartridge and a Federal 215 primer in Bell or Starline cases. This is an MOA load and will kill anything your liable to run into in the US. The gov't bullet 512141 at 450 gr. is also good for shooting fun... again 70 Gr. goex ctg.
Good luck

I have a 50 70 RB by Lone Star, and it is extremely accurate. 62 grains weighed of swiss
1 1/2, very slight compression, 600 grain postell bullet sized 510 with SPG, a fiber wad, and here's the 'secret'. between the wad and the bullet put TWO newspaper wads. This prevents the fiber wad from sticking to the bullet. I use this procedure in my Shiloh 50 90 with 84 grains. Both guns shoot inside of 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards. (rest with tang sight)
Dave at Lone Star recommended the larger bullet which is needed to stablized the 50 caliber.
He was right. Ken

I'm new to the Forums at BPCR (I'm now retired) and am finally getting ready to do some handloads for a RB Remington that John King built for me a few years ago and this info is just what I'm looking for. It's a couple years old, but still good info. If anyone would like to add to this post, I would appreciate it very much! Thanks to all! Good shooting!
