Re: WTB 1863 50/70

The 50-70 I had was good, my 1884 so-so. If you have a rolling block you can get the wire spring thingy for the trigger to make it real good.

Re: WTB 1863 50/70

Tom, It may be easier than you think to find a Trapdoor with a good bore. A couple of years ago I sold an 1868 50-70 with a perfect bore for $550.

Wayne, my accuracy load for a 400 grain bullet in my Browning 40-65 is only 53 grains of Swiss 1 1/2 with essentially no compression.

Bake, water buffalo are the ones in Asia that little kids lead around by a ring in their nose - Cape buffalo in Africa are the ones with little kids in their nose;-)

400 is not a standard distance for turkeys. If they are at the standard distance, your comeups are even odder.

Re: The much maligned .43 Spanish....

You're going to have to ask Bernie, he may remember making it. It's been a while and the mould left with the rifle. In the meanwhile, I'll look around to see if I possibly have a bullet from it. It would be like the one he has for the 11mm but maybe with an additional band and a fatter nose. I'll wr...

Model 1879 Argentine rolling blocks made by Remington can be had in near new condition even though they went through an unnecessary Argentine refurb before being exported. They do have a long freebore. I had Bernie Rowles of Old West Molds make me a slightly heavier bullet with a long shank that cou...

Re: Recommendation for beam or electronic powder weight scale

I weigh my BP charges, and have for many years, in the brass pan that came with the enlarger. It and my aluminum powder trickler are the only things that touch the powder. I live in a low humidity area. Not to mention that there is a video online of trying to ignite BP with a static charge and they ...

Re: Recommendation for beam or electronic powder weight scale

I've used one of these for 52 years and never wanted for another. https://www.ebay.com/p/1203548151 My vote would be for any balance beam - Lyman, Hornady, RCBS instead of an electronic one. With a balance beam you are locked in to the Earth's gravity. With an electronic scale you can never really b...

It is interesting that the Rem 357 Max and the Starline 445 SuperMax brass can be used for the Wesson 2 trigger convertible models in 38 Wesson Extra Long and the 44 Wesson Extra Long respectively. I have heard that a Wesson expert said that Frank Wesson was always playing around with his cartridges...
