AVENAL GUN CLUB
BPCRS Match Results
June, 2009

Seventeen shooters made the trip to Avenal this month. The weather was very mild for June although it did get a little breezy at times. It was another great weekend spent shooting with friends.

My thanks go to Jim Minyard for once again keeping me on target. With his excellent spotting I was able to post a 29, the high score of the match.

AA Irons was hotly contested with Travis Rogers shooting a very nice 27. Roger Johnson was right on his heels with a 26 and Yancey Harmon close by with a 25. Good shooting all of you.

Ed, The Intimidator, Espinosa and Steve, Mr. Offhand Shot, Stewart were tied in Scope at the end of the match. A sudden-death shoot-off was agreed upon by both parties to determine who would take top honors. It was a shoot-off to remember but it was far from sudden.

Steve fired first and missed. Ed shot next and missed. This continued on for so long that a runner had to bring more ammo to the line for Steve. He had mistakenly thought he wouldn’t need any more than 10 rounds.

Later that same day Steve and Ed were still shooting at (not hitting) chickens when they were asked if they needed to use designated shooters. By the looks on their faces I don’t think they saw the humor in that remark. But the crowd of onlookers were enjoying themselves. It’s not every day that you get to witness such a display of fine marksmanship.

Steve fired his 19th (that’s right, 19th) shot and missed. Somehow Ed was able to knock down his chicken putting an end to their misery and setting a new range record for the longest shoot-off. A record I’m sure they’re both proud of!

22 Silhouette Returns on Friday. Our 7:00 PM monthly club meetings are moving to the porch at the range. We’ll be shooting a 100 yard 22 Silhouette match either Friday afternoon before the meeting or Friday evening after the meeting depending on the weather. The range is well lit and we’ll stay with this program until weather forces us to move back to town in the fall. Vintage single-shot rifles with vintage scopes are encouraged but any 22 rim-fire rifle (NO MAGNUMS) with any type of sight is fine. I will warn you that using iron sights is really tough but some good scores have been shot with them. We shoot this match just like full-sized BPCR Silhouette. Try it, you’ll love it!

THANK YOU also to all those who were able to help prepare the range for the match.

Don't forget our July match is coming up on the 11th. Hope to see you there.
