California State Championship Match Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Silhouette May 30–31, 2009 |
| The Avenal Gun Club was host to 48 shooters
for the 2009 California State BPCR Championship Match. A great time was
had by everyone who attended. A big thanks to all the shooters and everyone
who helped with the match. Your participation and effort made this event
the huge success that it was. Good shooting, great friends, and the best
potluck we’ve had so far were just part of another great weekend at
Avenal.
Our long-range plans are to hold the 2010 California State BPCR Championship Match in place of our monthly match in April. This will be a 3 day event with a 60 shot Scope Match on Friday and an 80 shot Iron Sight Match Saturday and Sunday (40 shots each day). Details will be posted as plans are finalized. You don’t want to miss this one. We also would like to thank Carl and Vicki Tippins and Tami Wheelock for having food ready for us during the shoot. Tri-tip sandwiches with all the trimmings, potato salad, beans, and cold drinks were available at a very reasonable price with the proceeds going to the local Pop-Warner cheerleaders. They will be back at our monthly matches if we continue to support them. I certainly prefer their food over my thrown-together sandwich! I think everyone would agree that our setters for the match were absolutely the best ever. They kept us moving at an incredible pace. If there’s ever a competition for setting targets, ours will definitely take gold medals. Thanks guys for all your hard work. Congratulations to Chris Rogers, the 2009 California State BPCR Iron Sight Champion and Rich Davis, the 2009 California State BPCR Scope Champion. They scored 55 and 54 respectively with Jim Lindsay spotting for Chris and Steve Stewart for Rich. I’m sure they both will give a lot of credit to their spotters. It was one of those weekends when even the best spotters struggled at times. High Super Senior for the match went to Jim Eggleston and High Senior to Rich Davis. The Rogers team of Jeanette and Travis took the awards for High Woman and High Junior. Sudden-death shoot-offs were held to settle ties in AAA Irons and AA Irons. Arnie Moos and I shot to determine 2nd and 3rd in AAA Irons. We each missed our first two chickens with Arnie missing his third and me finally connecting. It’s a good thing Jeanette Rogers and Rob Robinson brought plenty of ammo to the match. I don’t know for sure how many shots were fired but Jeanette Rogers finally knocked down a chicken putting her in 1st place for AA Irons. Congratulations are in order for Debbie Robinson also. After knocking down all 10 turkeys on Saturday she was finally convinced to go for a long-run. With Rob’s great spotting she managed to get 2 more giving her the long-run in Scope Turkey. Great shooting Debbie! Paul Huard donated a line box that was awarded to the top AA shooter, Jeanette Rogers. Bob Keirnan made a nice leather wallet that went to the high score in A class, Les Lowell. Bob Grider sent $50.00 to be split between the high junior and high woman score. Travis and Jeanette Rogers walked away with that cash. Thanks for your generous donations.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Twenty-one shooters made the trip into town for the indoor 22 match. As always, it was loads of fun and entertaining too. Ask Rich Davis how to get 4 holes in your sighter with only 1 shot fired! This will end our indoor matches until cooler weather returns.
22 Silhouette Returns on Friday. Our 7:00 PM monthly meetings are moving to the porch at the range. We’ll be shooting a 100 yard 22 Silhouette match either Friday afternoon before the meeting or Friday evening after the meeting depending on the weather. The range is well lit and we’ll stay with this program until weather forces us to move back to town in the fall. Vintage single-shot rifles with vintage scopes are encouraged but any 22 rim-fire rifle (NO MAGNUMS) with any type of sight is fine. I will warn you that using iron sights is really tough but some good scores have been shot with them. We shoot this match just like full-sized BPCR Silhouette. Try it, you’ll love it! THANK YOU also to all those who were able to help prepare
the range for the match. During inclement weather call Bob Goodner in Clovis at
