Bullet Mould with filler holes top and bottom?

Post by paravil » Wed Jun 10, 2015 11:44 am

I purchased this mould, stated to be for the Werder 11.5x35R and can´t make out how it´s expected to work as it can be filled from the top AND the bottom. Any ideas on how it was meant to be used? Could there have been a plug for one of the two filler holes that is now missing?

It does look a bit curious. I believe if had a plug in the nose for making a hollow point. Alternatively, it could have had a plug in the base for making a hollow base bullet but I think the nose is more likely. either way, it leaves a hell of a sprue to contend with.

Wonder whether it´d be possible to fit the two plugs before the metal hardened. But plugs are the only solution I can come up with (the Werder bullet had a hollow base).

Perhaps it was nose pour and the hollow base plug doubled as an alignment pin to hold it under the lead spout. I have cast Minnie style bullets and the. Plug it a time waster taking it out and replacing it. If the base plug was a fixed item under the lead spout you could pull the mould and just open it letting the bullet drop away.
