In the recent BP Magazine I noticed a lot of Texans were using 3F Swiss in the 45/70 to shoot sillouette. Is this a new trend, a local thing or something else? Everyone aroud here uses 1.5, 2 or Goex. Just wondering why the Texas 3F overload, or was it something I just now noticed?
Can anyone recommend some tested 3f Swiss loads to experiment with in the 45/70 and whether it might be a worthwhile use of somewhat limited available time?

Using 3f in the 45-70 you get the same velocity with less powder than when using larger powder. Higher pressure due to the fine kernels may or may not result in less fouling than with heavier charges of larger kernel powder.
Trying different load combinations is never a "waste" of time. Always something to be learned/?gained from experimenting.

I will give it a try but must substitute the Sagebrush Creedmore for the Brooks. Can't make much difference. Got everything else.shooter37 wroteCOLONFrom Texas

The "Sagebrush Creedmore" is in all actuality a "Paul Jones Creedmore" bullet. The "Brooks Creedmore" is a copy of the Paul Jones design. Says so on his website. Either will shoot great.
And unless we asked Harlan directly whether his bullets came from an actual Paul Jones mould, or one from Steve Brooks, we will never know. I have moulds here at the house from both mould makers and they both shoot great
