Or even then. When I was a teen and Berdan primers were readily available I reloaded 43 Spanish using an ice pick to remove fired primers and a vise to reseat them.
Or, fill the case with water; insert a tight fitting wooden plug; give 'er a tap, "and Bob's your uncle".
.... but what do I know ....

OLR ... OUT !!

Think upside down Dixie cup with a 7/16ths dowel poked through the bottom, and let your imagination run amok !!

Of course the slickest way was a gunsmith friend who made custom 2 pin decapping rods.

I have been shooting my original Remington RB Creedmoor which is in 44-77 (44S) with paper patched bullets. A friend has a .43 Spanish OLD Remington RB military rifle and had never shot it. So I loaded some .43 Spanish paper patched bullets in 44-77 brass that fits my Shiloh. And he did very well with the old rifle and was so happy to have resurrected an original to shooting condition again. Both rifles shoot very well and are so much fun... I have shot my 45-70 at silhouette matches and it's fine. But other historic cartridges are really more fun to work with and shoot and they are just as accurate. Get a slip-on recoil pad, buy whatever you want, and shoot it all day.
