Wayne, was your alloy 20:1 or 20 to 1? 20 to 1 would give you a proportion of 21:1. 20:1 yields 20 pounds of alloy containing 1 pound of tin vs 20 to 1 which yields 21 pounds of alloy containing 1 pound of tin.
Plainbase,
It's 20:1 by weight or in this case actually 21:1 by weight meaning an alloy containing 95.5% lead and 4.5% tin my weight. Therefore 10lbs of 21:1 contain 9.55lbs of lead and 0.45lbs of tin. 10lbs of 20:1 contain 9.52lbs if lead and .48lbs of tin.
BTW, by my definitions:
20-1, 1-20 (1 in 20) all imply 95.0% lead & 5.0% tin
1:20 (1 to 20), 20:1 (20 to 1) all imply 95.2% lead & 4.8% tin
