Cleaning bullet molds

Post by Rantheman » Wed Dec 21, 2016 7:35 pm

I just decided to clean my molds because bullets were not as good as when molds were new. Having a heck of a time getting the smoke curing off. I have tried alcohol and mineral spirits and it takes an awful lot of elbow grease. Anybody know of a solvent that gets the smoke smudge off?

An old timer once told me to try soaking the mold & parts in ammonia. I did. It works after a couple of days. Any lead flakes that are left behind can be scraped off with a wood or plastic stick.

brake cleaner ,leaves no residue . Buy a can of moly spray and when you get the mould clean ,spray it inside and out with the moly after warming it up a little .

I use Brakleen and scrub with a toothbrush. It usually does an excellent job.

Ditto. It almost always takes a brush to get the job done. Dawn dish soap first then brake cleaner.

Thanks for the tips. I never thought about brake cleaner. I should have since it works so well on lots of stuff. The dawn did okay but Brahe cleaner is better
