Mold preference.

Post by Singleshot S.A. » Sun Nov 06, 2016 3:37 pm

Hey all,

I'm just wondering what the general preference is when buying a mold.
There is Brass, Aluminium, Cast iron and Steel to pick from.
What are the pros and cons ?
Single cavity, double cavity and multi.

I'm not new at casting but my casting isn't very good., I usually get a wide variation in weights from the same batch.
I generally use a Lee bottom pour, but will change to a dipper when I get back home and try to improve my method.

I'v never been a competition shooter, but want to have a go before the eyes give me to much grief.
Therefore at some stage I will probably want to buy a quality, custom mold.
But what type exactly, ? Single Brass, double steel, Aluminium.................... ??
I generally have enough time on hand to do my casting so I'm guessing a single..........

Any thoughts ? Singleshot S.A.

Quit using the bottom pour and go to a good ladle from Lyman or RCBS you'll see a bunch less variation.
Right now I think the best moulds are Buffalo Arms in house made ones.
