bullet boxes

Post by longcaribiner » Tue Jun 17, 2008 12:00 pm

Many years ago, I purchased a Stevens 44 with DST's. It was in 32-40 and came with a dozen boxes of shells, a breech seater, etc. In the box of loading stuff were several pieces of wood with a screw in one corner. When I fiddled with them they had covers that swung out of the way. There were holes drilled for each bullet, to fit into and the cover swung down over the works. Only a bit of the nose of each bullet stuck up far enough to grab. The holes were very neatly drilled with clean finished sides and a velvet bottom, maybe drilled with a forstner bit. Each piece of wood held 50 bullets.
