stainless steel tumbling media

Anybody out there using stainless steel tumbling media in the case cleaning?
I just started using it and pulled out my 45-70 brass, and low and behold I have
what looks like pewter 45-70 cases! Not a bad look. I even popped them in my
vibe, cleaner for 2 hours, and I still have 45-70 pewter cases? One thought was
that the black powder residues are staining the brass ??

Couple of folks I shoot with use a roller with stainless media and their cases look 'normal' and I've never heard them mention any coming out looking like pewter. Think they mentioned using a couple of drops of Dawn in each load. Perhaps you got Chinese media?

I have cleaned my BP cases afew times in my tumbler with SS pins and it worked fine ,no wierd colors .they came out very clean ..I mostly clean my BP cases in a vibratory cleaner with ceramic media and a slight bit of water and soap after running them for a cycle or two in a sonic cleaner .The reason i use the vibrator is the tumbler seemed to be beating the case mouths in . You couldnt see it but it caused a tiny burr on the inside of the mouth you could feel with a sharp exacto blade . I use the tumblers withe the SS pins to clean all my smokeless cases now .I did have a strange discoloration happen to some 30-06 cases when i put a couple copper washed 7.62x54r steel cases in with the brass cases .It turned afew of the brass cases copper colored .
