Goex 1F Express

At Bill Bagwells urging, I acquired 8 lbs of Goex 1F Express to try in my Sharps. I was a little skeptical even though I am a Goex fan. One problem is the price--almost $17 lb compared to $10 and change for Cartridge and regular 1F. So far I have shot about 2 lbs off the bench. On a positive note, it burns clean and is accurate. I shot a 5 shot grp that went .820" @ 100 yds in a 45-70. Fouling seems softer than Swiss. I haven't shot it ovr the chrono yet. I'm not sure yet i it is $6 lb better than regular Goex.

zrifleman,

I bought some Goex Express 2FG because I read some posts on the Shiloh forum where Rdnk stated he hunted with it and didn't need to wipe or blowtube between shots.

I tried this with 30:1 Paul Jones Creedmoor bullets from Sagebrush that I sized to .457 dia (my Pedersoli groove dimension @ chamber is .456). This load used 70 gr Goex 2FG Express and a milk carton wad.

With blowtube, borepigs or boresnake 5 shot groups of 2" This was almost identical as what I get with 67 gr of Swiss 2FG

Goex Express 2FG without any cleaning was 3 shots in 13"

I've got a Lyman 457132 mold on order. I could try the 457125 mold as this is what was recommended in the posts I read. I don't know if it would make a difference? Maybe there is a trick to shooting dirty?

HPT--The trick is use a good lube. I shoot dirty most of the time. I make my own lube from Beeswax, coconut oil, carnuba wax and peanut oil. With straight BP on a hot day here in SoCal, I hit the 10 ring 20 out of 22 times at 200yds on SRC target. No blow tube and no wiping---with Goex. With duplex loads I have shot many groups under an inch at 100 yds---dirty. So the answer is in the lube.

zrifleman,

Would you be able to provide details on how much of each ingredient? Do you use a lube cookie or something like that?

Have you noticed an improvement with Express for shooting dirty? I have to travel 400 miles to get more, but could get regular Goex down the street.

I'd like to stick with straight black, but may consider duplex as a last resort.

What bullet do you recommend for .45-70 shooting dirty? Any special dimensions?

Thanks for your help.
