Trail boss duplex loads for 38 44 45 etc

This is the place to discuss your duplex and smokeless loads for your black powder guns. All SAFETY concerns must be addressed, and high pressure loads are NOT to be promoted here.

Trail boss duplex loads for 38 44 45 etc

Post by greg » Sun Aug 05, 2012 7:06 am

Hi All,

Looked around quite a bit and cant find any hints on this, firearms will be modern cartridge rife and pistol such as ruger and marlin, use will be single action where absolute accuracy is not the main concern.

why duplex ?

looking for less mess and less attention required in any match but with the fun effects that BP provides :)

I have trail boss on hand as well as some other powders. When loading 357, 44 or 45 cases about 15 gr of black seems to work well.

if 1.5-2 grains of trail boss with 15 grains of BP likely to be a problem, or, if only the effect is required, would a low regular load of trail boss but with 1 or 2 grains of black on top for effect a possibility (all single action data shows relatively low pressure for modern firearms.

Don't duplex load with Trailboss. It is way too fast for this, something along the lines of 4227, 2400, 5744, 4759, etc. is safer and more effective.
