40/65 duplex load

This is the place to discuss your duplex and smokeless loads for your black powder guns. All SAFETY concerns must be addressed, and high pressure loads are NOT to be promoted here.

If the weather ever gets above 25 I might just hit the range with 5 new duplex loads that I'm playing with and I'll let everyone know what happens.
They are with Reloder 7 and Cartidge with 385 Mos bullets. Starting with 10% and working up to 15% and the reminder with Cart. equals to 52 grains of powder. Might be to light, may need to work up to maybe 58 grains total.....

see you later, Van

this is the first duplex load that has shown any promise. I in the past have tried with out much luck to get a duplex load to shoot in any of my 40-65's. This load has shoot very well right around 1 MOA at 100&200 yards. And it seems to be able to do it the last 4 times to the range, so I'm satisfied that this might be my gong match load. Here it is 7 grains of Reloder 7 and 45.5 of Cartridge under a 385 Snover shaped nose Mos bullet, W?W brass and Rem. 2 1/2 primers, very small amount of compression (hardly any) the velocity runs 1311 with a ES of 7 fps.

This is my first post on this site and I'd like to share a 40-65 duplex load that I used about a dozen years ago with good results. I used a 300 grain RCBS plain base bullet sized .410" and seated to crimp on the lower part of the top drive band. All grooves were lubed with the NRA 50/50 alox/beeswax formula. I used 2.5 grains of WW-231 and 48.0 grains of AA-8700. While AA-8700 has been discontinued, I read that WC860 is a good replacement using the same load data. I've since sold my 1875 C. Sharps rifle in 40-65 but my records show good accuracy with the above load.
