Uberti copy of Win 1895 high wall in 45-70

Post by bono47 » Wed Dec 17, 2008 12:23 pm

I am gitting a Uberti 1895 Winchester up and running with tang sights and a new front sight. While working the lever to drop the breech block, I accidently left the gun cocked and about half way through the process of lowering the breech block, the hammer sprung forward and hit the breech block. Is this a normal feature of this action, and was it made to do this? I have looked at the Win 1895 schematics a little and have searched the web a little but nowhere have I found any mention of this happening on the 1895. Does this damage the sear and hammer notch or is this a safetty feature that old John designed into the action. Any help would be appreciated.
