Fascinating. However there are a couple of factual errors in the description of the event. The USS Monitor did not fight the USS Merrimack nor did it do battle with the CSS Merrimack. The USS Merrimack was burnt to the waterline and abandoned by Union forces evacuating their base in Virginia. At that point the Merrimack ceased to exist. The hulk was salvaged, rebuilt, given a steam propulsion system, armored and then and recommissioned as the CSS Virginia. The Virginia and the Monitor fought to a draw. The Yankees have no right to reclaim the vessel without a victory. The valor of the men long gone who fought and sailed the Virginia gives them a right to rememberance under the proper name. Here's a site that gives the facts.
