how much muzzle energy, does black powder loads produce, I'm shooting a 45-70 with a 24 in. barrel, my loads are 65 grain of swiss 2f with a .o30 wad & a 425 fn cast bullet, & my other load is 62 grains of 2f swiss & two 030 wads & a 500fn bullet, just interested in how much energy-thanks

If I knew what your velocities might be for those two loads, I could tell you.

I will guess that the following velocities and provide energies for them

Load 1 425 gr bullet at 1300 fps = 1590 ft lbs at the muzzle
Load 2 500 gr bullet at 1200 fps = 1600 ft lbs at the muzzle

Effectively identical, but the velocities are just SWAGs. Of course, the heavier bullet will retain more energy down range.
