Ron Long told me for a production gun he thought those Uberti's were alright, just needed a little better barrels.
Pedersoli will soon market a Hiwall reproduction...in 45/70, 45/90, and 38-55 (long).

If Pedersoli does a highwall it will probably be nice. I don't like their sights but their barrels seem to shoot well. Interestingly, the Uberti and Pedersoli barrels "slug" very similarly as to land/groove width and groove depth.

My Uberti 45/70 highwall has a #3, 32" barrel and it shoots great. BUT - notice the big but - I'm 6'5" and a large lad. The curved buttstock of the Uberti leaves me with two black & blue places on my shoulder each time I shoot it. So, I've got new fancy wood in here from Treebone to restock it this winter with a shotgun butt. Mine's a pistol grip so I'll copy one of the fancier Winchester checkering patterns from John Campbell's excellent book and cut it in 22 lpi. I just got in a set of Kelly mid-range rear and Kelly bubble-in-globe front - color case almost matches the Uberti on the action, very tasty - and I'll try to see if Cimarron can get me a Uberti "spur" style lever to change out with my plain one. The Treebone Win. copy steel checkered butt plate I'll rust brown. So without a barrel change or any big mechanicals or welding, I may have a very choice little highwall for the spring.

Where there's a will,

Rob Dorsey

The bore is straight, but the groove diameter tapers in the Pedersoli. You would need to slug both ends separately to detect that.

If you go to Limbsaver.com
they are shown in the online catalog. Or, you can contact Marcie Rhoton at marcie@limbsaver.com to order one. Mention my name (Jim Milner) and you "might" get a price break.
I will e-mail you a picture of the shirt and if you like you can post it. I cannot post pictures at present.

Here's a pic of the shirt from limbsaver that Jim was speaking of.
Looks like it might be a pretty good outfit.

Uberti rifle pic

Post by Kodiak » Sat Dec 08, 2007 12:02 pm

Here 'tis,

Image

I got a Uberti Carbine 45/70 in a trade. It has a more shotgun style butt than the "rifle" version. No curved steel butt-plate on it. Had to do a little inlettin' on the existing forend. Rebarreled it with a badger barrel in 45/90 with Baldwin front sight and PU tang-sight. Trigger can be worked-on to about 2# if ya wish. It works really good, for the $.
