InterGalactic Buffalo Herd Match Championship

Post by Brent » Sun Mar 17, 2019 3:38 pm

I just got back from the second InterGalactic .22 rimfire Buffalo Herd Match this past weekend.

The shooting was excellent, though I didn't manage to win it all. We also ate rather well, drank rather well, and played a few hands of cards (my pockets were a bit lighter on the way home this year).

I hope your weekend was as enjoyable.

Doesn't get much better than that.

Normally, it's just a little bit better. Every other year, we have also hunted rabbits as the main attraction, but this year a blizzard wiped it out and the season was over the next weekend. We manage to keep occupied somehow however.

how does this work? Such a simple question but challenging answer. We tend to make up the rules every year.

This year, it was two guys shooting off in a round-robin like set of matches. First shooting 10 shots in 30 seconds. We had lots of ties, so we had lots of shoot-off do-overs.

Then we lined them up in lines of 5 with a small buffalo in the middle. One shooter would start on the left side, the other on the right with unlimited shots and time to shoot them down in order - with the winner being the person who shot the little buffalo in the middle first.

And then there was just a lot "free-form" shooting. I know I shot over 500 rounds of .22 on Saturday alone. Plus, quite a few .38-40, some .38-55, and a few boxes of shotgun shells. There was a lot of lead in the air. :)

That sounds like SO much fun! I mean, any excuse to shoot steel is good enough, but I'm way more excited by this kind of set up than a "formal" match.
The only bullet you fire is the one in the chamber. Make it count.
