Dallas Area BPCR Help

Post by Shanghai jack » Wed Jan 10, 2018 9:34 pm

Hi all.

Been reloading smokeless now for almost 50 years and haven't blown myself up yet but BPCR seems to be a science/magic all unto itself. Looking for someone in the Dallas area who wouldn't mind giving me the benefit of some of their experience in exchange for breakfast/lunch/beer etc. Need some general instruction. Going to be loading for 38-55, 40-65, 45-70, 45-90 and 45-120. Board postings are nice but in person would be much better.

Anyone interested

Thanks in advance.

Jack, person to person is the best way. But get it out of your mind that it is some kind of scientific magic. Yes it is trial and error for a short time but it's straight forward.

The best way to start is KISS:
- take a primed, fireformed case
- dump in enough powder of the appropriate granulation
- seat card/LDPE/veggie wad on top of powder
- if needed, compress powder enough to seat bullet (touching the rifling)
- seat lubed bullet
- load
- fire
- deprime
- clean cases
- reprime
- start over

It can be as simple as this, and all the other variations can come later...

you often try the rest and come back to kiss.

Okay so let me ask another question. Where do you North central Texas guys score your black powder and other supplies.
