Measuring Dovetail Slot Dimensions

Post by TexasMac » Mon Sep 05, 2016 6:53 pm

For the many of you that are not gunsmiths or machinists, I just updated an article on Measuring Dovetail Slot Dimensions. It discusses four methods to determine the dovetail dimension, some more accurate and easier than others. The link to the article is

Nice article Wayne.

I've always taken a lead bullet and swaged it flat then swaged it into the dovetail from the right side and the back out through the right side. Takes only a few moment and will give you a complete picture of the dovetail for depth, angle, taper, etc. You can also drop it in an envelope and mail it to your sight maker or gunsmith to use in making a sight that will fit your rifle "just right".
I'm not from here, I just live here.
