Recently bought one in .28-30 Stevens. Looking for a mild smokeless load.

In a Lyman manual under the 120 grain bullet (228221) that was designed by the man who designed the 28-30-120 Stevens it suggests 5 grains of Unique. Of course, the original was 30 grains of FG which COTW says gave 1500 fps, maybe. You might try 8 or 9 grains of 2400. Best source for loads should be on the ASSRA site.

I am shooting the 120 grain bullet mentioned above lubed with SPG and with 13.5 grains of 4227 seated in the case. Shoots very well for me.

Just got the rifle throated for this bullet to be breach seated and have not fired it since.
