Need experienced shooters opinions on 40-90 SS

Post by Hepburn40/90SS » Fri Jan 13, 2006 9:14 am

Hello, I just ordered a new Remington Hepburn from DZ Arms, in 40-90 SS with a #5 barrel and will be using a Baldwin front sight and a Hoke rear and I would like the opinions of others with experience with that caliber as to:
what you would recommend for a barrel length and barrel twist. I plan
on using this for long range 500-1000 yds., starting off with a 405 gr
bullet cast in a Hoch mould. I am not that experienced with BPCR and
presently shoot a Shiloh in 45-110 with a 34" barrel. Others have told
me that a 34" barrel in 40-90 SS would tend to foul to much. Now I
tend to lean towards a longer barrel because of a longer sight
picture. I have very little problem with fouling with my Sharps as I
use a blow tube and don't have an understanding as to why the 40-90 SS
would be any different. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Larger/longer powder column,=more fouling.
