shiloh or c. sharps arms 44-77

Post by ehsa » Sat Jul 01, 2017 10:05 am

considering buying one or the other in 44-77.but i am wondering about the different brass rim sizes out there. it seems that the c.sharps rifle takes a thinner brass than the shiloh.if this is true then wouldnt the shiloh be the better choice because you would find brass with thin or thick rims fitting better.current jamison brass is .080 which is too thick for c.sharps rifles i believe.also would your headspace be on the case shoulder like any other bottle neck cartridge.john

ehsa,
if I were buying a new bpcr, I would insist on the availability of a lower transition angle than 45 degrees at the front of the chamber.
the old guns ran angles like 4 or 7 degrees.
this solves the lead or paper ring problem.
when the bullet bumps up into the transition, and it will with lead alloys and black powder, that bumped up metal can feed into the barrel a lot more smoothly.
keep safe,
bruce.

I would choose the Shiloh regardless of the type of brass that it needs.

Personally I like the finish of a Shiloh better than the C Sharps. I have a Shiloh 44-77 and the brass from Buffalo Arms fits it perfectly.

Late to the party but if you want a Shiloh quicker you can always contact Bill Goodman and usually get what you want in a few months.
Every time I think about buying a C Sharps I find a Shiloh I want more
