Finally got it

I've finally got my new getz barrel fitted and chambered in 40-70SBN. Just have to go into work in the morning to put the finishing touches on the job (Front sight dovetail and forend dovetail) then its out to the range to fireform 50 cases. Getting exited

Re: Casting my way

I was using 37g swiss 2f in mine but it was a tad fast. (may of been welting turkeys) Im going to drop it down to around 30-32g and see how it goes.
PS this smokeless thing is just a passing fad.

Re: Casting my way

Brent, I use the same mould in my 38-40, don't have any problems with it finning but I do cast with 2 molds 30/30 and 38-40 for example. Are you going to use that new fangled smokeless powder in it? I use 14.5g 4227 with great results.

Re: Boat tailed BPCR bullets

Well I have made my mould, with the rbt should drop somewhere around 380-390g. Go home tonight and cast some up, patch them and get ready to test on Friday arvo.

Re: Boat tailed BPCR bullets

Interesting reading Brent. I will give it a shot. I am in the process of making a mould for such a bullet. I intend to make the mould with interchangable base plugs enabling me to make a conventional b/t, a rebated b/t or a flat base. This will also allow me to vary the weight of the projectiles by ...

Boat tailed BPCR bullets

The question I have is: Does anyone currently use/ has used boat tailed Black powder bullets :?: Its something Ive been contemplating trying with paper patch's to further reduce drag and hopefully the effect of the wind at longer distances. The theory seems to be there to suggest it will work, but I...

Re: GETZ Barrels

Im having the reamer made to 2.1 so I can use standard 45-70 cases to form, having a shallow transition angle so that in "theory" it will be more suited to PP bullets. Time will tell. I will definately keep you informed.

Re: Looking for Marlin 1895

CLAS = Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette :) "I think the 95 is just too much gun for competition" no such thing as Too much gun, especially for them pesky chickens. 280g 38 cal with 50g swiss 1.5 pushing them only is just enough to knock the chickens over and over and over. :) So much fun Mick and I wi...

Re: GETZ Barrels

My new 40 cal Getz barrel arrived last week, after some bullshit paperwork I now have it in my hot little hands, I'm extremely pleased with the finish of the barrel, the communication from John and the overall experience. Now I just have to get my 40-70SBN reamer and fit it. Then the real test will ...

Re: .38-50 rem Hepburn from .303 British

My missus uses a 38-50 with 303 cases. The shorter legnth doesnt worry us as the bullet just protudes a little further. I use 49 grn of swiss 2f and a 320g projie. The load works really well and is easy to shoot. She is also the only master grade BPCR Sil shooter in Australia.

Re: Raton BPCR Nationals 2013

Brent, we all had a great time, learnt alot and also learnt where we were lacking. We will return hopefully in the not too distant future. I've already started a new rifle build 40/70 bottleneck I think just to be different (I have been known to "be different" here in Australia) and with one of Blue...

Bluesteel, I'm interested in a 40cal barrel with something near a 1 in 16 twist and about a Winchester no.3 oct barrel (or half round half oct) Could you please let me know if you could help me out and give me a rough price. The only other thing is that I live in Australia do you export to Australia...
