Re: compressing black powder

Thanks Chris. Unfortunately, I live in a state where there's a 5 lb limit on unloaded/loose gunpowder - black or smokeless - so ordering in bulk isn't really feasible. Thus I'm left with what's available locally, which is pretty much Goex standard.

Re: Current Lyman Postell mold quality

BACO is Buffalo Arms Co. Their molds are great. If I were to have only one mold ( fortunately I have a pile of them :-) ) it would be a Buffalo Arms Money bullet. I have heard that the Pedersoli rifles prefer a .460" bullet. I think that BACO makes a bullet specifically to fit the Pedersoli. Chris....

I know you're right. I should just suck it up. Does BACO have a website? When I Google the name, all I get is links to forums and to Buffalo Arms.

Re: compressing black powder

300 yards and further is where you will start to notice excess vertical if you have too much velocity variation. Have you done any ten shot groups over a chronograph? Chris. No, I don't have access to one. I'm still pretty new to BPCR and to reloading - despite of interest, I only get to shoot a fe...

Current Lyman Postell mold quality

I've been using a Lee 459-500r, which was inexpensive to start on but appears not to be the greatest bullet ever designed by man. I shoot the Pedersoli Sharps in .45-70 and would like to step up somewhat. Unfortunately, a custom mold isn't really in the budget for me, so I'm thinking of the Lyman Po...

Re: compressing black powder

Following with interest. I've been loading 65g of GOEX 3f into Starline brass for my .45-70 Pedersoli. I currently use a Lee 459-300r bullet that us around 480g from my mold and seats at OAL of 2.85". I'm compressing about .25" to get there. I got decent results at 300 yards but things kind of fall ...

See, this is why I like the South. It's not that I mind cold, per se. But my version of winter is one that starts in January and ends in February. 8)

Re: Questions on tang screw for Pedersoli Sharps

The trigge plate on the Pedersoli is a bit odd. There's a large lug with a hollowed out center directly in the middle of the plate - looks to either be forged/cast on (not sure if it's a forged or cast plate) or brazed in place. It sits directly under the front tang screw hole, and the trigger lever...

Re: Questions on tang screw for Pedersoli Sharps

Never mind. All is well. I was able to file the screw short enough and then clean up the screw head with a hacksaw and files.

Re: Any .22lr BPCR matches near Baltimore

I've shot at Delmarva a couple of times. It's a nice range with gongs at 200, 300, and 500 yards. I haven't been there for a formal match, though. Thanks for the tip.

Re: What is wrong here?

As a relative newby, I come here to read a lot. Many of my questions are answered simply by a search. I have gotten good answers to most of the questions I posted, though a few have gone unseen. It kinda sucks that there isn't more traffic here.

Questions on tang screw for Pedersoli Sharps

I'm re-posting in the General section since the original post didn't get any traction in the gunsmithing section. Mods, please do as you need in case this is a no-no. I put Lee Shaver sights on my Pedersoli 74 Sharps. It's got that issue where the original tang screw is too long when used under the ...

Front tang screw for Pedersoli Sharps Silhouette model

I put Lee Shaver sights on my 74 Sharps. It's got that issue where the original tang screw is too long when used under the sight mounting plate, and interferes with the triggers. The screw was shortened some, but I wonder how much it should be shortened. When operating the triggers with the sight re...
