Re: New Alloy

John my quest for a good bullet is like your quest for a good mould that casts a good bullet.

New Alloy

For about a year now I been working on a alloy for the light .40 caliber and the heavier .45's to get a alloy that will hold the 2/3 of the bullet from upsetting into the groove. I was looking for a alloy that is hard but malleable so it just expands the 1/3 of the base but hold the front at bore di...

Jack, person to person is the best way. But get it out of your mind that it is some kind of scientific magic. Yes it is trial and error for a short time but it's straight forward.

Re: Bullet to Groove Diameter

For a GG bullet I opt to go a thousand over bore this way you have the option to size it a thousand down if need be for accuracy it the rifle shoots better at the lesser diameter. You can always reduce it but it's harder to expand it with out a swage. Also a potential problem could come if the shank...

Re: DZ or MVA Scope

Chris I agree with you on the front MVA adjustable mount. I have a bunch of unertl blocks and when I mounted the B-5 scope on my new .40-65 rifle I want to use for silhouettes and maybe for some long range from time to time I went through my collection of base blocks till I worked out the combinatio...

Re: DZ or MVA Scope

sgt. Here is what I was talking about the rear mount bushing the tube slides in. The top photo is the way the bushing should be when the locking cam is tight. The bottom photo is when the bushing is not flush with the mount and the impact will be off if the cam is tight with the bushing off this muc...

For what they get for a re barrel job you might just be farther ahead selling the rifle and order what you want. A Shiloh sells very fast if it hasn't been beat up.

Re: wiping instead of blow tube

Probably not a thing wrong with it as long as you keep the bore in the same condition. Wiping for a GG bullet removes the lube left behind from the last shot fired so the lubrication left behind from ballistol might help from getting lead smears. Try it and report the results.

But Gussy that rolled paper is just right if you have a very tight bullet for the bore and need thinner softer paper and it shreds very good!! :D

Re: 2017 World Championships. Australia.

My dreams for making a International team are none existent at my age. I would like to shoot the LR ML matches, always have. I don't know if they hold the same strict rules or not but I have been thinking on building a under hammer target rifle with a lock like the Allan Foundry or a finished rifle ...

Re: 2017 World Championships. Australia.

Thank you Brent for posting. You guys done well! It may have been bad conditions but it was the same for all. When and if I follow through building a rifle I will do a lot of research before starting this project. I saw a closed breach under hammer action once that I would build the rifle on and it ...

Re: 2017 World Championships. Australia.

Bruce do you know what twist is he using? I have a 1/16 ROT .45-90 that shoots extremely well that pushes me to a 16 ROT shallow grooved barrel for this use. I have to do some searching to find out what is legal weight and rifle specs. I know nothing about this game but for years it has been in the ...

Re: 2017 World Championships. Australia.

Bruce I looked at them several times and shot one. They shoot well and they shoulder well with good balance. I also handled a Alexander Henry #3 target I liked, but I still have enough parts to build a couple rifles short of the barrel.
