Are you sure you don't mean the .40-63 ballard Everlasting? The .40-63 Ballard Everlasting was simply the .40-70 Ballard in a thicker walled Everlasing case> Marlin also chambered the Ballard in their .40-60 Marlin, which sounds more like what you have, as the .40-63 is 2.38" long. The .40-60 Marlin...

I'll second Dave Crossno, and also concurr on the bedding for Ballards! Both excellent choices to get good results!

Not sure where you're coming from Hepburnharry? I wasn't bothered, and I wasn't defrauding anyone. Did I make a mistake; sure! I was just hoping that you were a Hepburn guru, and might contribute something constructive, but I see that's never gonna happen! Two posts, and both derrogatory. I'd say yo...
"Original Hepburn" ? Isn't that the one you lengthened the barrel and had relined? If it is, I wouldn't call it "original".
So you joined to point out this one error on a gun that's not even for sale, and now you're done contributing? Gosh, I was hoping for some great H...

You caught me Harry! Yes, it did have the barrel restored. And yes, it was returned to it's original length of 30". You are correct, that would no longer make it original. But then I guess when it was bobbed to 22" it wasn't original either. At least it's back to it's original length and cal...

Kevin, Email John Taylor if you decide to rebarrel your Roller. He can do the job reasonably, and do it well! He's also pretty fast, and will turn it around in no time. John welded 8" to the barrel of my Hepburn, contoured it, and then relined it to .40-70SS again. It's better than new, and I was ab...

I sort of figured they were something like that, when you mentioned how the screws held the panels. Thanks Al.

Thanks Al! Hope to someday find a military action cheap enough to build one up too! Still don't have a Sharps, and I like the Borchardts much more than the typical 74 action.

The new CPA system is nothing new, it's just like the originals. I don't own a new CPA, but I do own numerous original Stevens, and after 100 years, none of them are loose.

Dovetails are NOT tapered, but sight bases are! The bases are tapered to go in right to left, and out left to right. (as someone already mentioned.)

I wouldn't hesitate to build a modern manufacture Low Wall repro in .32-40 or a lot of other calibers. On the other hand, if you plan to build it on an old original Lo Wall action, I think that's a time bomb in the making.
