Dave, Roger that! I shoot for fun and really don't plan on winning, ever. Anyway, the Friendship crowd are such a super bunch of guys that just being there, sharing ideas and shooting, makes everyone a winner. The guy who wins with a 68 gets no more attaboys than the B shooter who moves up to A. We ...

Kelly, Actually I shot my Miroku 45/90 Highwall, just shot one day and shot a 12. I'm a rock solid "B" shooter at this point. I've been shooting BPCR - strict definition: Black Powder Cartridge Rifles - for 45 years but just this year in competition. I'm not a very competitive person so I tend to st...

Kelly, Ok, I'm cool with the "bore" rather than "land diameter" nomenclature. After all we're talking about the same thing, the tightest bore in the barrel and yours is the shorter term. I remeasured and came up with the same measurements but I must admit it sounds like your measurement tools are mo...

Swede, Actually that tool looks like somebody "sacrificed" their wife's garden sheers - they usually have wound springs like that and have wire clips to hold it closed when not in action. Either way, it's one of the best lash-ups I've seen for a home made. I might weld one up for myself. Thanks for ...

Kelly,

Nah, I don't think so. What do you base that on?

Barrel Slug Fest

All, Just completed slugging all of my barrels and three stood out as worthy of putting out here. Slugs are darn hard to come by so I use pure lead 50 cal round balls which are driven into the breech of the barrel about 4" and then driven back out the same way they came in. It's an imperfect system ...

Charlie,

I agree with you and they are probably cut in the same factory but one is a Pedersoli Creedmore Roller of 1987 vintage and the other a Uberti Highwall a couple of years old. Still, chamber consistency is good enough that I don't have to resize.

Best,

Kelly, Yeah, I felt the same way but after the colon reaming I received over the Pinnacle thing, I have carefully reverted to not being controversial or confrontational. It's my normal style anyway. Once my cases retreated .003" after firing, they have not shrunk further. I do not fl resize since I ...

Thanks,

On the Shiloh forum I've posted the same question and got basically the same reply with the added encouragement that they will stretch out.

Case Length

I searched the posts and found no help here so I guess it is a new thread. By the way, any search turned up over 2,000 hits so the research was tedious. I'm shooting Starline 45 2.4 brass and it measures 2.397" out of the box (Midway) and 2.395" after one firing. Good ol' Winchester 45/2.1 brass mea...

Model 70 too?

Jim, Do you see the quality of the M70 going down as well? I've got two, one in 458 Lott (from a 458 African) and one in 375 H&H. Both are CRF and are dependable tack drivers. Both have been to Africa and the cool thing we did was to headspace both bolts the same since the two cartridges have the sa...

Yeah but.

Mack, Actually, I have one of these, bought from a San Antonio dealer from a Guns America ad. It might have been you. Anyway it's a nice enough rifle, well built with decent wood but that wood could use some more finish. I'm patiently rubbing some Trueoil into it at each outing and it will form a ni...

Allowing replica black powder in BPCR

All, I recently got reamed on the Shiloh forum for a letter I sent to the NRA Silhouette Committee petitioning for a rule change or clarification on the use of replica BPs like GOEX Pinnacle in BPCR Silhouette. What drew me to BPCR was the strict adherance to historical accuracy evidenced in the NRA...
