Re: DP John Bodine users

xring1, I'm answering from memory that they were around 1200 fps measured with a cheap but sometimes dependable Chrony approx 12 ft from the muzzle. I'll prowl through my notes if I get the chance and confirm that.

Re: DP John Bodine users

My load in the JB is one you might not be able to duplicate because the powder is now out of production. It is 69grs of Goex Express FFF with a .030" Walters wad and a newsprint wad under a 20-1 Lyman Postell lubed SPG at .459" in stretched Starline brass. BRII's provide the spark. The best group so...

Re: Stainless steel tumbling media ?

scamp62 There have been multiple reports of the effectiveness of SS media so I suspect that the discoloration may lie in another area. On four occasions I have had the same effect occur on brass that was being cleaned with ceramic media. One instance occurred when I used TSP, another with Barkeepers...

Re: R. Nerke Wurzen r/Sa Schuetzen rifle

bonehead if you don't have much luck here you might try the ASSRA (American Single Shot Rifle Association) forum. Those guys have a keen interest in Schuetzen rifles and there are plenty of experts there who are very likely to have information about the rifle, calibre and loads. There's some mild cr...

Re: Determining OAL and load development

txsteel you might want to do a chamber cast. Pedersoli 45-70 chambers are often longer than SAMMI spec and brass trimmed to the max suggested standard length of 2.10" will be short and the standard 2.090" for spec chambers will be way short. Haven't burnt smokeless in it yet but before I strectched ...

Re: Belden & Mull Upgrade

A section of chromed brass waste or drain pipe from a plumbing supply store will also make an extra capacity hopper. It's a foot long, an inch and a half in diameter, holds a lot of powder and the old hopper lid is a slip fit. "20 GA", the pipe thickness, is stamped on it so I left that logo clearly...

Re: What do you flux with?

I stir with a short (6-7") length of 1/2" hardwood dowel rod. It will char nicely very quickly and you can scrape off the charcoal on the sides and bottom of the pot to promote the re-mixing. Look around for a stainless steel tea strainer with a wire handle. Sticking it down into the melt for a few ...

HP and Brent, searching for a thread on 40-65 Brownings and paper patching wasn't very satisfactory and I'd appreciate you pointing me toward one y'all have started or contributed to. Barring that I'd appreciate either of both of you starting one if you're so inclined. CDKeth, please accept my most ...

Re: Paper-patching Brownings & Winchester 45-90's

HpGuy and et al, Rumpole popularized the phrase in the "modern age" and my SWMBO and I thoroughly enjoyed the BBC series. Just to expand a little on SWMBO the phrase was originated by a late 19th Century author, H. Rider Haggard, in an adventure novel set in Africa entitled "She". The story deals wi...

Hey macca, can I take advantage of your exchange rate? My dollar bill for your Aussie 20? An expeditious reply would be helpful; my property taxes are coming due. :D

Re: barrel temp and sighting

macca you might want to consider relieving contact between the forearm and the receiver slightly. This is similar to the proceedure Montana Chalie mentioned for Sharps rifles. Sanding off enough wood in that area to allow a dollar bill, a crisp new one, to move between them without binding could also...

Re: Lube of the bottom of sized bullets

There may be a few things you can do or consider that will minimize the dreaded condition known as "greasy butt" for your bullets. Sometimes the shape of the bullet base and the sprue cut contribute to the condition. Rounded edges on the base either by design or resulting from casting technique will...

Sulfide? Isn't that listed on the ingredients of lots of things things that need preserving? Let me check out my can of vienna sausages. Yep! It's right there on the lable. Okay! Anyone have any expertise, experience or guidance on the subject of duplex loads for a Ruger Redhawk and a Ruger Security Six? Especially interested in loads for the 357 as it is the most suseptable to fouling out and locking up. Currently using 2 gr IMR 4227 under 27.5 gr of Goex Express FFFG in th...

Fire at Wideners Reloading

Fire destroyed an ammunition and component storage building owned by Wideners Reloading in Johnson City today. There were no injuries reported. No word yet on the amount of damage. They had just received a shipment of primers from CCI. Thought anyone who orders from them should know.
