Re: Replacement Barrels

There's no shortage of places that will make a barrel to the same contour of your trapdoor. Finding a gunsmith that can properly fit and chamber it might be the biggest problem.
Oregon Barrels, and McGowen barrels would be good places to get a barrel blank.

BPTR midrange match

Dick Hennebry has put out an inquiry as to the amount of interest there might be in shooting NRA BPTR midrange matches at the Cheyenne Rifle and Pistol Club. They have a CMP range that only has a few high-power matches a year, and if there's enough interest they may be willing to put on a midrange m...

Re: Are my cases ruined?

You're better off to let the fired cases sit until you get done shooting then deprime, prewash them and then put them into what ever tumbler you use. When on a trip from away from home and it'll be a few days before I can run them thru the tumbler, I carry my Hornady ultrasonic cleaner and run the d...

Re: Sight Question

The MVA buffalo soul, or the Hoke rear sights are way preferable to the set ups. Either will give you 40 some minutes of left and right windage. The windguage front sights are alright and will work well with the regular MVA and other sights that only extend out to 24 minutes or so, but the big probl...

But what was the diameter of the 40 bullet, and what is the diameter of the 45 bullet before patching?

Re: New Alloy

Another thing on the bump up difference I'm wondering about.
How much difference between the bore diameter and bullet diameter between the 40 and 45 bullets are you dealing with? In other words is the 40 closer as cast to the bore diameter , than the 45 bullet?

Re: New Alloy

One thing to be mindful of is while a bullet shows spectacular performance at close range, when you get to 700 and beyond things can sure go to pot on you. With the 396,415 bullet is a particularly good example in our rifles. In my 40-70 it shoots lights out to 300, but by the time you get to 500 th...

Re: New Alloy

Kurt I'm wondering if those 45 caliber bullets were cast at a few thousands larger in diameter, if the results may of come out a bit different?

Re: shotgun reloading

Brent I messed with that just a little for an old family heirloom double barrel with damascus. Using the circle fly wads under the shot cups helps with fouling and patterns. The wads I had on hand were for a 14 gauge muzzle loader, and they fit in the fired hulls just nice. Don't know if 12 ga. wads...

John, Steve Brooks has the original Ideal profile dialed in pretty well. I have two from him for the 44's.
That Saeco 645 sure treats our 45-70's well.
