I use a box about 8 inches tall. I think you should try to keep it as low as you can but still be comfortable. Something without a back will keep you from getting crossways from any rules restricting chairs with arms and backs.

Re: Recoil Pads
I suggest you find a "Butt Ugly" slip on recoil pad rather than bolting on a a fixed pad. It will add some length and make the rifle more comfortable to shoot prone or from a bench.

Your best bet is to deny everything. Claim it was that color before you started or that you don't know what she is talking about.
Your other option is to buy her a new dishwasher and never wash brass or auto parts in it again.

Re: Annealing Cases-Chicken
sooty blow-by after firing is one indicator
If the case mouth doesn't expand to seal the chamber, the brass is not elastic enough and should be annealed.

Re: MVA sight bases
What you plan will work fine. Keep in mind, the midrange sight on a rolling block will not let you shoot much past midrange distances due to the drop in the wrist. Just off the top of my head, you lose at least an inch of usable sight due to the geometry difference from a sharps action.

Re: Annealing Cases-Chicken
You could twirl the case in the propane flame with your fingers. When the case is to hot to handle, consider it done. You want to anneal the mouth down to about 5/8" Brass conducts heat pretty well. Usually a 10 or 12 count is all my fingers can stand. If you would rather look for color in your bras...

Re: silhouette target rail question
Michael, I think Watkins uses old scraper blades or cutting blades. They can usually be had for scrap but are hard material that can take the abuse. Cut and weld them into a T shape and drive them into the ground.

What he said.
I don't think that mould has much application in a cartridge gun. I'm not sure it would even make a good fishing weight.
