Re: Duplex for 45-110 fouling control

Ok, gonna resurrect this old thread in hopes someone sees it. @Freedom mentioned using Blackhorn 209 as a duplex option. I've been reading on it, as I like the idea of not having to mix my own duplex. I have a couple questions: 1) Reading their load data chart (for .45-70), they reference a weighed ...

Re: messy, inconsistent lube application

Thanks, Alan. I hadn't thought about aligning the grooves and the ports. That makes a lot of sense. I'll give that - and unplugging - a whirl.

messy, inconsistent lube application

I've got a new-to-me Lyman 4500 lube-sizer with the heating element. I use the Emmert's lube recipe for lube. For the life of me, I can't seem to get the process correct for consistently applying lube to the bullet. I make sure to let the heating element go for a good 15-20 minutes before I get to w...

Re: Finding the barrel vibration sweet spot

I should really just subscribe to the magazine. I'm interested in the topic here. As an FYI, the formatting is all messed up - at least for mobile phones. Most of the graphics are pasted over top of the text, so there's a lot you can't read. I'm not sure if that can be remedied, but I thought I'd me...

That's really cool. Lots of great stuff there that no one i know can afford! But it's nice to know it still exists instead of slowly deteriorating in the ground somewhere.

Re: New member from Tennessee

What part of TN are you in? I grew up in Nashville and still get home every so often. Yeah, it is a bit "dead", but there is still great information here. I know I tend to drift in and out as my interest shifts from one hobby to the next. But the guys here have been great with support, and I've gott...

Re: Aid for aging eyes.

That's pretty cool. I'm "only" 41 (my wife keeps telling me I was born in the wrong century...), but my eyesight is so bad I'm close to legally blind without glasses or contacts (and it gets harder every year to find contacts that work). I know I'll have to start coming up with alternative sighting ...

That sounds like SO much fun! I mean, any excuse to shoot steel is good enough, but I'm way more excited by this kind of set up than a "formal" match.

MtnFisher: I got your PM. I'm having issues with my PM's being sent out, so if you didn't get it, let me know and I'll give you another contact method.

Thanks

Re: Current Lyman Postell mold quality

Whatever you do, regarding a mold, find someone who is shooting to the level that you want to be at., and with the same rifle. Then buy the same mold :D . Many of us have a lot of molds. I have enough of them that I don't know how many I have, although I only use a few of them :-). It's easy to spe...

WANTED: mold for 45-70 silhouette bullets

Looking for a good deal on a mold for 500g or larger bullets for my Pedersoli Sharps. I'm leaning Postell or Money bullet. If anyone has an unused mold they're willing to part with, let me know.

Re: compressing black powder

I suspect the bullet. Get up around 500 grains. They do take up a lot more case room though. I'm looking for a new mold, now. My current bullet (Lee 459-500r) drops at 480g in a 20:1 alloy, but I don't think it was really supposed to be a BPCR bullet. I also have been gently chastised for using reg...

Re: Current Lyman Postell mold quality

BTW, the Lyman Postell is a very good bullet design. It was designed by Postell for long range target shooting and is one of the best long range target bullets ever designed, widely used for BPC silhouette. I don't know about their moulds, mine are several years old, but Lyman has been having some ...

Re: compressing black powder

Fair point. My real goal in accuracy is to reliably hit the 500m ram and so forth in silhouettes. That's the farthest I have to shoot anywhere near me, anyway.

I'll see if any local shooters to.me will go in on a group buy.

Re: compressing black powder

Oh, I know I can order it in that size lot. But with hazmat charges, it comes out really pricey.
