Re: InterGalactic Buffalo Herd Match Championship

That sounds like SO much fun! I mean, any excuse to shoot steel is good enough, but I'm way more excited by this kind of set up than a "formal" match.

MtnFisher: I got your PM. I'm having issues with my PM's being sent out, so if you didn't get it, let me know and I'll give you another contact method.

Thanks

Re: Current Lyman Postell mold quality

Whatever you do, regarding a mold, find someone who is shooting to the level that you want to be at., and with the same rifle. Then buy the same mold :D . Many of us have a lot of molds. I have enough of them that I don't know how many I have, although I only use a few of them :-). It's easy to spe...

WANTED: mold for 45-70 silhouette bullets

Looking for a good deal on a mold for 500g or larger bullets for my Pedersoli Sharps. I'm leaning Postell or Money bullet. If anyone has an unused mold they're willing to part with, let me know.

Re: compressing black powder

I suspect the bullet. Get up around 500 grains. They do take up a lot more case room though. I'm looking for a new mold, now. My current bullet (Lee 459-500r) drops at 480g in a 20:1 alloy, but I don't think it was really supposed to be a BPCR bullet. I also have been gently chastised for using reg...

Re: Current Lyman Postell mold quality

BTW, the Lyman Postell is a very good bullet design. It was designed by Postell for long range target shooting and is one of the best long range target bullets ever designed, widely used for BPC silhouette. I don't know about their moulds, mine are several years old, but Lyman has been having some ...

Re: compressing black powder

Fair point. My real goal in accuracy is to reliably hit the 500m ram and so forth in silhouettes. That's the farthest I have to shoot anywhere near me, anyway.

I'll see if any local shooters to.me will go in on a group buy.

Re: compressing black powder

Oh, I know I can order it in that size lot. But with hazmat charges, it comes out really pricey.

Re: compressing black powder

Thanks Chris. Unfortunately, I live in a state where there's a 5 lb limit on unloaded/loose gunpowder - black or smokeless - so ordering in bulk isn't really feasible. Thus I'm left with what's available locally, which is pretty much Goex standard.

Re: Current Lyman Postell mold quality

BACO is Buffalo Arms Co. Their molds are great. If I were to have only one mold ( fortunately I have a pile of them :-) ) it would be a Buffalo Arms Money bullet. I have heard that the Pedersoli rifles prefer a .460" bullet. I think that BACO makes a bullet specifically to fit the Pedersoli. Chris....

I know you're right. I should just suck it up. Does BACO have a website? When I Google the name, all I get is links to forums and to Buffalo Arms.

Re: compressing black powder

300 yards and further is where you will start to notice excess vertical if you have too much velocity variation. Have you done any ten shot groups over a chronograph? Chris. No, I don't have access to one. I'm still pretty new to BPCR and to reloading - despite of interest, I only get to shoot a fe...

Current Lyman Postell mold quality

I've been using a Lee 459-500r, which was inexpensive to start on but appears not to be the greatest bullet ever designed by man. I shoot the Pedersoli Sharps in .45-70 and would like to step up somewhat. Unfortunately, a custom mold isn't really in the budget for me, so I'm thinking of the Lyman Po...

Re: compressing black powder

Following with interest. I've been loading 65g of GOEX 3f into Starline brass for my .45-70 Pedersoli. I currently use a Lee 459-300r bullet that us around 480g from my mold and seats at OAL of 2.85". I'm compressing about .25" to get there. I got decent results at 300 yards but things kind of fall ...

See, this is why I like the South. It's not that I mind cold, per se. But my version of winter is one that starts in January and ends in February. 8)
