Duplex for 45-110 fouling control

I am looking at Duplex Loads purely for fouling control. I stick to pure BP when shootinh from the rest, but sometimes I like to take my rifle up for mountain hikes, where having a cleaning rod and blowtube out and ready may not always be the easiest. I have been looking at ways to keep my bore clea...

Re: Redding Big Boss

Mecharius, you wrote: Eventually, I would prefer to be making my own powder, but will be waiting for that until after I can consistently load with the manufacturers material. That way I have something consistent to index my diy against. Please don't try making powder in the vicinity of your rifle. ...

from powder inc, it is cheaper per pound to buy five pounds than it is locally. About, a five dollar difference.

Re: Redding Big Boss

After reading into it, even with the hazmat fee, seems like it is worth it if i buy more than a few pounds at a time. Thinking that on my next payday i will order a mix of powders and start trying them out.

Re: Redding Big Boss

Yeah, it might be, but you can order even just 5 # at a time. And I bet any local distributor will cost more than an order-and-shipped option would charge for the same amount. But don't take your quite nice, expensive investment, and feed it a diet of second rate ammo. You will never really be sure...

Re: Redding Big Boss

Mecharius, You should know that you can order black powder, delivered to your doorstep. It will be cheaper too. Or, at least, no more expensive. I strongly, strongly recommend Swiss 1.5 or 1 f for that rifle. Don't cut corners with powder. I was aware that it could be ordered. I just was under the ...

Re: Redding Big Boss

Mecharius I have nearly the same rifle. Mine has their 32" heavy weight barrel so is probably about 13 lbs. Once you get paper patching figured out you'll probably be surprised at how accurate your rifle is. With respect to powder, what brands are you considering? You might want to consider Fg in t...

Re: Redding Big Boss

What are your aspirations with this rifle? Targets? Competition or recreational plinking (if one can be said to plink with a .45-110 :) )m hunting (if so, for what?)? Target shooting mostly. Competi5ion, maybe, eventually. Hunting with this rifle would be interesting. C sharps 1874 Bridgeport with ...

Here is how I wrap and seat bullets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1DmoZnYIQE&feature=relmfu You do not wet patch? I saw a video of Kenny Wasserburger on facebook rolling his patches, he made them moist with a spunge, then rolled, dried them on what I think was a hot plate. I had been under the i...

Re: Redding Big Boss

So after reading that and mentally checking over what i have (not at home at the moment, or i would verify) I believe this is my modified shopping list: Wadding material (open to suggestions) Material for making wad lube (open to suggestions on this as well) Bullet mould lead (I only currently have...

Re: Redding Big Boss

Although I am deviating from my original question, I feel it best to ask while I have the attention of others. The local shop only keeps in Stock 2f, 3f, and 4f bp and substitutes. Would 2f work well enough or should I bite the metaphorical bullet and pay the fees to order online? Eventually, I woul...

Re: Redding Big Boss

I haven't used that Redding press, but I can say that the Rock Chucker will work for the .45-110. I no longer use a press to seat bullets, but I remember having to tip the cartridge ( with bullet sitting in case mouth ) in order to fit it into the press. It was no big deal though. Chris. You hand s...

Re: Redding Big Boss

If the rock chucker will work with only that mild inconvenience added then I may not worry about replacing it at this time. Though I would like to have a press which could work for this round with having to tilt at insertion. But, with that information in mind I will get the bullet mould and be able...
