Re: Original #1 rolling block sporting rifle in 40-50 bn

i'll bet that rifle could tell a few stories :!:
pictures show an item that has obviously had a good interesting life.
hope the chamber has not been buggered up, and never is.

kurt, mntnfisher, myself, and many many others really enjoy your most refreshing and interesting posts. you are one of those who goes out there and tries things, as opposed to those who just rely on urban myth and heresay. you led the charge on 44 cal with about 1 other guy who has disappeared, and ...

Re: New Alloy

kurt, if you have an alloy that makes bore riding noses actually ride the bore, you will solve a lot of problems that people did not know they had. this of course while sealing the bullet in the barrel. most of the so called bore riding nosed bullets are only suited to smokeless powder, as black bum...

Re: Bullet to Groove Diameter

sgtdog, your question needs to address what happens to a bullet in a case when a charge of black powder goes off behind it. what happens is that the case instantly obturates against the chamber wall, and as it does sothe bullet obturates against it, bumping up to fill any available space. alloy hard...

Re: Using hotplate to preheat mould

using the hotplate is certainly a great timesaver. without a temp measuring device for the mould, this is what i have found. i put the mould on the hotplate on setting 3 ( of 4) when i light the gas. when the alloy is up to temp, the mould will cast perfect looking bullets. however it was noticed th...

brent, thank you for the photos. it reminds me of the pleasant afternoon i had watching, kurt, if you want to shoot long range muzzle loader un mlaic comps, they are very specific about what you can and can't use. either originals, or replicas thereof are all that is allowed. rifles are scrutineered...

Re: 2017 World Championships. Australia.

kurt,
there are better designs than the whitworth for long range shooting.
the easiest for you might just be to buy a pedersoli gibbs, get a mould that fits, and go shooting.

bruce.

Re: 40-72

sorry i did not give the clarity i thought i did. what i was trying to describe was making a 40 compete in the wind with a 45. it can do it with fast twist and bullets to suit, and sufficient powder capacity, against a std 45 setup. not everyone's cup of tea, but interesting to an odd bod like me. l...

Re: 2017 World Championships. Australia.

a question for brent. how did you find the oz flags for windspeed compared to american ones? i have a raton flag and it is lighter than ours, but longer. when i saw you shooting you seemed to be going very well, in fact one of the better ones. you mentioned having a few problems. were they technical...
