Splattersmith, that post is almost three years old and while I'm pretty sure I unravelled that mystery, I'm not positive that it wasnt a combination of events that caused it. Several of which you listed in your diagnosis. BUT, here's what the main culprit was imo. (I had to consult my notes, so this...

Thanks DanT, I think my problem is behind door #2. I've had this rifle for nearly 3 years now and have shot about 150 lbs of bullets through it and have not yet solved this problem. I lapped the bore some last summer, but intentionally "went light" on the muzzle end. I thought I had cured it, but re...

speaking of lube and not enough lube, answer me this question, I have a Shiloh 30" barrel that will produce the greasiest lube stars you ever want to see with a variety of loads, but will still lead like crazy in the last two or three inches of barrel. What is the problem with that one?

Thanks buffshooter, I'll stick wid what I've got. Mine is a mid 60's model and aint threaded neither, and its no bother to me to just pour some more powder in it when it gets low anyway. I wish I had all the powder thats been through that measure! Somewhere around here I've got an empty can of Dupon...

Thanks buffshooter, I've been using my old Lyman with black for a little better than a year now with no problems. I just kept the plastic hopper. Is the aluminum hopper bigger than the plastic one? I can throw fffg to within +or- about .2gr, but sometimes 1.5fg will vary as much as a grain. I dont u...

Arnie, Your way sounds quicker and easier than what I have done, but like you say, the best of all is to have a mould cut to drop the bullets at the size wanted. I've got a PJ 40001 mould that throws the bore riding nose at .398 and I've been thinking of lapping the nose portion out to cast at .400"...

ever tried this?

I made a little sizer that will take the front band of this saeco 740 bullet down to .400 while leaving the lower driving bands at .408". I havent shot any yet, but seems like it will help to align the bullet in the bore when its chambered. The bullet is seated .10" less in the case which makes room...

Thanks for that insightful answer Jim. I knew I could count on you for some really interesting explanation of why plastic works better than fiber. Sorry I missed the match Saturday I bet it was an interesting day. Those of you who use poly wads, what is the reason you like them over fiber or gasket wads?

Pat, you can do a search on "three position shooting" and get all the information on position building you need. I'm sorta in the same boat as you, and due to a spine injury years ago, the prone position can be very uncomfortable and down right painful at times for me. I had the same idea as you abo...

I've used some of those citrus cleaners, and just about everything else you can think of on black powder guns, and they work about like any other soapy liquid. The mix I've used more than anything lately is 2parts: windshield washer fluid with 1part: Murphy's oil soap. I use that same stuff in my Sh...

I'm new to this game myself, and I might be completely wrong about this, but I seriously doubt if you'll ever get your setup to shoot moa constantly. I mean I dont believe anybody can shoot moa all the time with the sights used on these guns especially at extended ranges. What I have been able to do...
