Re: The 50 year dream
Great report, and pictures! The Pacific was probably one of the most successful hunting rifles of the old West, and caused significant worry at both Winchester and Sharps when it hit the market! Hard to beat the .45-70 for performance and longevity!

Mix 50/50 hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar. Plug the end of the barrel and stand the rifle up, pour in the mix till it fills the barrel. Let sit for 15 minutes, no longer, then remove the plug and watch the lead pour out. Pour hot water down the barrel to stop the chemical reaction. Clean as norm...

Rolling Block .22
Picked up another #1 Rolling Block Sunday, and it's been nicely converted to .22 rimfire. Wondered if anyone had ever seen an extractor setup like this before. It works flawlessly, and beautifully engineered design! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v691/marlinguy/rb22d.jpg http://img.photobucket.co...

Hi Dave, Yes the hammer is already reshaped and at the finisher's for bluing, as are all the other parts. The receiver is back home now from Al Springer's, and the rest will be back this week! The buttplate....well it came from a friend who gave it to me with a 3/4" chunk of wood still on it, where ...

I'm nearing the end of a similar project on an original Rem. #1 Sporting Rifle. Mine is rebarreled, and chambered for .40-65, with a heavy full round Green Mountain barrel that's 32" long. I built stocks for it, and the receiver is at Al Springer's for case color work. In a couple weeks it will be b...

.40-65 bullet info
I'm in the process of rebuilding a original Re. #1 Rolling Block Sporter. I've decided to go with a .40 caliber barrel and chamber it for .40-65 Win. My barrel blank is a 1-16" twist, which brings up my question.
What bullet weights will work best in the .40-65 with 1-16" twist?
