Re: rebarreling springfield trapdoor

Re barreling the Trapdoor is not difficult and can be done by a competent gunsmith. It is suitable for for a number of cartridges such as the 40-65, 45-70, 45-90, 38-55, etc. Stick to black powder. By the way the action is very slim and I've seen pictures of several custom rifles that had the lines ...

Re: Winchester/Browning High Wall - which is what?

If you are referring to an original Winchester Highwall then it is indeed derived from a design by John Browining. If you are refering to modern Browning and Winchester Highwalls then it is a new design that looks like the original. The lockwork is different and a real bear to work on.

I haven't heard how Dick is doing since his last post in March. Hoping the chemo has had its desired effect and he's in remission. Any news?

Re: Hydrous lanolin

Since most lubes require heat to mike the ingredients most or all of the water will be lost incorporating the lanolin into the lube.

Re: 405 WCF

I believe the .405 is nothing more than a smokeless version of the .40-70.

What were you planning on doing. I might have a sacrificial block available.

Re: .38 360 gr BA/Money Bullet

My blocks for the bullet in question measure 1.49" top to bottom without sprue plate. Not a whole lot of metal left at the tip of the bullet cavity. Casts a nice bullet by the way. Haven't tried it on the range yet.

All the mentioned moulds are first rate. However a somewhat less expensive way to get a decent copy of the 500gr 1881 bullet is the SAECO 881 bullet. It's a good copy of the 1881 and casts about .360" which is just about right for the Springfield.

Still haven't managed to get Remington cases but have tried Winchester. They have to be expanded (easy enough) then full length sized with the cases forced completely into the RCBS full length die on top of the shell holder to get the cases to chamber and then thin the case necks so a .375 bullet ca...

Out of curiosity just what are the problems your friends are having with the WW brass as opposed to Remington?

I'm curious. Dan's reamer is designed for Remington 30-40 brass. What is the difference between Remington and Winchester 30-40 brass?

I ask because I have a rifle with this reamer in the works and I haven't yet been able to come up with Remington brass.

The Uberti Sharps is made by Pedersoli and is a good rifle. I have a Pedersoli Long Range Rifle and it is very accurate. It isn't a Shilo but it is a good rifle and I think you're going to like it.

There are a three theories about the name that I'm aware of. One is the long firing pin another is the rather long, slender silhouette of the rifle and the third is, for the time, the small caliber of the bullet - "shooting needles". I suspect to the GIs of the time the reason for the name was obvio...
