Mike...you have a valid point about not messing with the chamver area....Ive always done this pre-chambered.....If you have a good bore guide the muzxle wihh be fine to lap from. I reallt dont like lapping a chambered barrel......do-able but caution abounds here......John G

When I sad about lapping from the breech, I meant just that.....I never implied the lap get anywhere near the muzzle...???? you pour the lap...then pull it back iut of the breech....charge the lap....index to the grooves and dont lap any closer than 4"from the muzzle. it cuts heaviest at the entry.....

Dave...I have a 29.5" oct-rd .40-1:16" twist barel on hand. It measures 1.060" at the back of the octagon breech....to .920" at the muzzle....polished....ready for immediate delivery....email me and I'll send you some oucs....john...aka..bluesteel45

Yeah....we have a saying in Pennsylvania.. You can always tell a German "Penna. dutch" Pennsylvanian....you just can't tell em' much...!! I plead the fifth on that one.....I went straight to the venerable 47-70....my father on the other hand......john

Brent...I figured I was putting my head on the proverbial chopping block when I annointed the good old 45-70 the ruling emporer...lol..!! Ive seen the .40s and .38s maintain equal footing with the old 45-70...then the wind had to put in its 2¢ and those 500+ grainers outstepped its lighter weight co...

just read this post.....FINALLY...! Nice job Brent.....I see Brian Chilson shoot at Shippensburg, Pa. on a monthly basis....he IS tough....!! He has actually shot a 40x40 in silhouette....scope class...38x40 with the irons.....tough to beat.....gotta get to Raton next year...!! Thx again....john
