Re: 1000 yard sporting scope

Gert, for competition shooting over here in North America, all you really need the scope for is reading the mirage and looking at the score + spotter discs on the target. And maybe a bit of spying on adjacent targets. Mostly what you want, IMHO, is good glass, as big an objective lens as possible, a...

Re: 1000 yard sporting scope

I use this one for everything. https://www.amazon.ca/Bushnell-Legend-Ultra-degree-Spotting/dp/B001MYESEC I've compared it side by side with Kowa scopes and it is very similar for mirage reading, but the Kowa scopes might have a very slight edge I think. It's certainly good enough that I won't replac...

2019 Heffley Creek BPCR match ( British Columbia, Canada )

Hi BPCR riflefolks, It's almost time for the 26th annual Heffley Creek BPCR match in beautiful Heffley Creek, near Kamloops British Columbia. It's an excellent match on a beautiful range, run by some great people. Plenty of nice spots for dry camping. Newcomers are always welcome. If you don't have ...

That is really nice. It makes me sad that my gun buying budget is sort of used up. Not that I really needed another .38 cal rifle :D

Re: paper

I just Google it and look for some place that has it for sale online. I don't think I've bought it from the same place twice :-)

Re: Boomers molds.

From what I remember, Dave P. recently posted on either the Shiloh or ASSRA forums that he's shut down his web site and is only making molds for old customers.

You could double check with Dave. He posts as "SchuetzenDave" on both of those forums.

How and why does one swage down?
Meacham used to make a tool to do this. You do it for the opposite reason that people used to drill them out :-). I believe that it's a waste of time doing either one.

Re: Drilled out primer pockets

Another thing that people have tried was swaging the primer holes down a little. I have some .45-2.6" cases like that. They do work very well, but so do the unmodified cases :-)

Re: Current Lyman Postell mold quality

Whatever you do, regarding a mold, find someone who is shooting to the level that you want to be at., and with the same rifle. Then buy the same mold :D . Many of us have a lot of molds. I have enough of them that I don't know how many I have, although I only use a few of them :-). It's easy to spe...

Re: compressing black powder

I suspect that dropping your powder charge won't be the answer. If you can find a pound of Swiss 1.5 or maybe Goex Old Eynsford I'd give that a try. Primers can sometimes help quite a bit.

Re: Current Lyman Postell mold quality

I know you're right. I should just suck it up. Does BACO have a website? When I Google the name, all I get is links to forums and to Buffalo Arms. BACO is Buffalo Arms Co. Their molds are great. If I were to have only one mold ( fortunately I have a pile of them :-) ) it would be a Buffalo Arms Mon...

Re: compressing black powder

Following with interest. I've been loading 65g of GOEX 3f into Starline brass for my .45-70 Pedersoli. I currently use a Lee 459-300r bullet that us around 480g from my mold and seats at OAL of 2.85". I'm compressing about .25" to get there. I got decent results at 300 yards but things kind of fall...

Re: compressing black powder

I've compressed powder that much before, but it's not what I usually do. It can be done as long as you don't bulge the case which will prevent the round from chambering. To be honest I'm surprised that you need any compression at all with your current load. Is your bullet seated out all the way. i.e...
