Trapdoor final fitting

With only a few small adjustments to be made this baby is looking like it will look. It will be several days before I can get her to the range. I will let you know how it goes. http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j333/bigotto1/gemmer3_zpsbb5624be.jpg http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j333/bigotto1...

buttplate

Still working on the Trapdoor Hawken, fitting the buttplate is tedious. This is my first attempt at a curved plate, the stock was pre-carved but the plate was far from exact fit. Heat and reshape the plate but still lots of wood to remove in very small bits using inletting black and files. http://i1...

Re: another project in the works

Drilled and set underlug staples and sling mount. I also got buttplate and wedges for staples. I was lucky to have time for this much with painting and installing new floors in the main family room.

Re: another project in the works

Well, it's a hodge-podge of orphaned, new and original parts. The stock is from treebone carving, action and lock came from an inherited 1884 rifle (broken stock and severely corroded barrel), barrel is green mountain, sights and trigger are from a T/C Renegade and all other parts; trigger guard, bu...

Re: another project in the works

Green Mountain .458 sharps contour (tapered octagon) with the round breech area removed. Now waiting for parts from ToW, buttplate, underlug staples and wedge pins. It will include a pewter nosecap, all steel parts will be browned with LMF barrel brown and degreaser and wood with an oil finish like ...

Re: another project in the works

Jim Kobe cut, threaded and chambered the barrel. The draw filing of the barrel and all other work I do myself. http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j333/bigotto1/drawfile2_zps15e2673a.jpg http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j333/bigotto1/drawfile1_zpsab668058.jpg http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j...

Re: Rules for Dating My Daughters

Even before he is allowed to talk to my daughter I expect a 10,000 word essay titled, "what are my intensions with Emily" and full drug tests of urine, blood and hair, and a complete geneology going back to Adam. With that being accomplished then the young fellow is required to have a sit down discu...

Metal finish

Ok, so I got the 1884 action and lock. I am going to brown the barrel so what to do with the action and lock? There is the springfield eagle on the lock but it's very faint and I don't want to lose it. the markings on the action are deep and clear so that is not an issue. Case hardenibg is appealing...
